goofing around on gimp. i <3 you

"there's somethin' 'bout the way
the street looks when it's just rained

there's a glow off the pavement,
you walk me to the car ..
and you know i wanna ask you to dance right there
in the middle of the parking lot, yeah

we're drivin' down the road,
i wonder if you know i'm tryin'
so hard not to get caught up now ...
but you're just so cool,
run your hands through your hair
absent-mindedly makin' me want you

and i don't know how it gets better than this
you take my hand and drag me headfirst,
fearless
and i don't know why but with you i dance
in a storm in my best dress, fearless"

veronese ~ garden/gallery/cafe

one of my favorite places... the garden has more than 8 little enclosed places to sit and hang out/relax/ study...

Veronese: Cafe/ Gallery/ Garden

Tea, Korea-style, at 419 Cafe Veronese
From the outside, Cafe Veronese looks more like a home than a business. It occupies a historic two-story house a couple of blocks from downtown Fullerton’s strip of bars and clubs. The inside is sparse?a counter where you order and a couple of tables in what was once the living room. But in the back yard, 419 Cafe Veronese offers a mystical, soothing experience straight out of The Secret Garden, but without the cripple...

But Veronese’s specialty is its Korean teas, 11 of the most fragrant, delicious beverages you’ll ever taste. They are steaming art. Each costs about $5? A bit expensive, but they are served in massive clay steins and redolent of flavors you’ll want to try again and again. The nice gals at the counter will steer you to the lemony yooja, the flavor most familiar to the American palate. But most of the teas use such Asian fruits as maesil, a red grape-tasting thing better known stateside (if known at all) as the Asian plum. Sukryu is a burgundy-tinted tea made from pomegranate seeds and flowers, divinely intense in the nose and on the tongue, and featuring a fistful of juicy pomegranate seeds at the bottom. The murky, lime-green mogwa tea is prepared with Chinese quince and is reminiscent of a light honey. Deachu tea, made from Chinese dates, is filling and gently sweet. You’ll encounter pine nuts floating atop most of the teas, each an earthy counterpoint to the tea’s sweetness. GUSTAVO ARELLANO

Lanterns Khome Loi: Yi Peng Festival

something i hope to witness in my lifetime...

Yi Peng/Loi Krathong Festivals in Chiang Ma, Thailand

The Yi Peng Festival involves the launching of thousands of tubular lantern hot air balloons called “Khome Loi” skyward as an offering to Buddha along with a chance to cast away grief, misery, and ill-fortunes.

The lanterns are constructed using traditional bamboo formed into hoops, and then they are coated with either tracing paper or Saa Paper made from the branches and leaves of the mulberry tree.

A small candle placed in the base provides the hot air to fill the paper envelope and float the lantern gently skywards.

amelie

http://www.patriciabranco.com/images/blog/amelie.jpg

AMELIE - 25 April, 2001 (Belgium) - Its such a sweet, creative movie. I like the attention to details and that the whole movie is mostly saturated reds and greens. It's so cool how she helps people in the slightest ways and has the most awesome time doing it.. The garden knome part is one of my favorites!! Be patient thought, it is slow moving but completely worth it. Amelie is so funny but in order to understand you must get the English subtitle version!!!

"Nino is late. Amelie can only see two explanations. 1 - he didn't get the photo. 2 - before he could assemble it, a gang of bank robbers took him hostage. The cops gave chase. They got away... but he caused a crash. When he came to, he'd lost his memory. An ex-con picked him up, mistook him for a fugitive, and shipped him to Istanbul. There he met some Afghan raiders who too him to steal some Russian warheads. But their truck hit a mine in Tajikistan. He survived, took to the hills, and became a Mujaheddin. Amelie refuses to get upset for a guy who'll eat borscht all his life in a hat like a tea cozy. "

"Amelie has a strange feeling of absolute harmony. It's a perfect moment. A soft light, a scent in the air, the quiet murmur of the city. A surge of love, an urge to help mankind overcomes her."

DON'T WATCH BELOW IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT... (its the romantic part! :) )

gregory colbert: ashes and snow (http://www.ashesandsnow.org/)... if i'm anxious or uninspired, i just look at what hes done around the world, and almost immediately i'm calmed

Photobucket

"Gregory Colbert's Ashes and Snow is an ongoing project that weaves together photographic works, 35mm films, art installations and a novel in letters. With profound patience and an unswerving commitment to the expressive and artistic nature of animals, he has captured extraordinary interactions between humans and animals.

His 21st-century bestiary includes more than 40 totemic species from around the world. Since he began creating his singular work of Ashes and Snow, Colbert has mounted more than 30 expeditions to locations such as India, Egypt, Burma, Tonga, Sri Lanka, Namibia, Kenya, Antarctica, the Azores, and Borneo.

The show first opened at the Arsenale in Venice, Italy, in 2002 and is charted to travel the globe with no final destination. The Nomadic Museum, the travelling home of Ashes and Snow, debuted in New York (March to June 2005) and then travelled to Santa Monica (January to May 2006), and Tokyo (March to June 2007). The show will travel next to Mexico City.

The title Ashes and Snow suggests beauty and renewal, while also referring to the literary component of the exhibition—a fictional account of a man who, over the course of a yearlong journey, composes 365 letters to his wife. The source of the title is revealed in the 365th letter. Colbert's photographs and one-hour film loosely reference the traveller's encounters and experiences described in the letters."
